In Poland, there is a sense that this is not the last incident of its kind. “This may just be the beginning,” newspaper editor Michał Szułdrzyński says.

He and others linked the drone incursion to a joint Russian-Belarusian military drill - Zapad - which is due to begin in Belarus on Friday.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk described these exercises as “very aggressive” and announced that Poland would close border crossings with Belarus the night before they begin.

“It is clear that this was not the last incursion of Russian drones into Poland,” journalist Bartosz Wielinski writes for the Gazeta Wyborcza daily, adding that "further provocations" are expected during the Zapad drills.

The weekly Newsweek Polska calls for a "firm reaction” from the government and Nato, saying "the Kremlin only understands the language of force".

“Expressing indignation and summoning the ambassador will not be enough. Especially since, according to Polsat News, one of the drones hit a residential house,” it adds.
